a few interesting facts about the words we use:

Riff - riff, as in, a repeatable sequence in a song, comes from the latin word Reffeus, which means "Repeating"

Game - Game is actually the romanian word for "kite"

Gerbil - gerbils got their name from the south-African phrase Gebi-gabi, meaning "round-nosed"

Skinny - in 18th century russia, the word "saknsi", meaning skinny, was used almost exclusively to describe sausage.

Mouse - As far back as ancient greece, long before computers, the word for Mouse was used as a slang for "whip", as it was used to control animals and slaves. This, of course, factored into the naming of the modern utility

Skanky - The work Skanky, meaning sexually devious or horny, comes from the polish word Shaschkli, meaning "pervert"

My Latin dictionary claims that there is no such word as "reffeus," and my English dictionary claims that "riff" is short for "refrain." :/
